Gobble, Gobble

While I have not seen that many Thanksgiving Mugs, there is no shortage of them, here a few of your choices.     However, it is certainly true that Thanksgiving starts the winter holiday season and most definitely gets one thinking about enjoying a hot beverage in your favorite mug.

Even if you don't find one of these mugs to be one to add to your collection, don't hesitate to share a
picture of your mug containing your favorite beverage.    Simply add the hashtag #umugit so that it gets included in our "Mug roll" of mug shots on our main page.

Halloween has become a huge event for decorations, costumes, and parties in the last couple of decades. Why should the coffee lover (or any warm drink lover) be left out of the phone. It should not surprise you that the selection of mugs with a Halloween theme are virtually endless. Here are a few of our favorites that would be great accessories for when you are handing out candy this year and will certainly scare the kids less than full blown goblin or other costume.

Software Engineers Do Love Their Coffee

Can a company be fueled by coffee? At my own location, in addition to free coffee on every floor, there is a "higher end" single serve coffee machine on one floor that has proved quite popular, there are two coffee chains located in the retail area of the building, and there is another public location across the street. This seems to be especially true for software companies. This post references a study done that does show some statistical correlation.

Interesting stuff, but I cannot possibly imagine how this coffee could be enjoyable served in a paper cup! Do you have a software engineer in your life? Help his/her productivity (and enjoyment of their coffee) with one of these mugs.

All Coffee Mugs Have Their Story

It’s my belief that behind every coffee mug is a story.   Some take longer to be told than others, some are straight forward, some are mysteries. This story is the latter and the inspiration if you all for this blog.

I had a brother from out of town staying with me.  He was also visiting several of my siblings in town.  One day he came into our house carrying a coffee mug.   I was not sure where he got it, but it was interesting enough for me to notice it.   After he left, we found it in our kitchen cupboard.    My wife and I thought, “Oh, it was a gift.  He must know the family passion for coffee, and thought this would be a nice gift.   Funny that he didn’t mention it”.

That was in early September.    We continued to use it as it was now one of “our” mugs.    That Thanksgiving we were hosting an extended family gathering and we served coffee after dinner.    Since we had this mug now in our regular routine, we used it that day.   After setting it down on the table, another brother of mine said with a surprised look on his face, “I have been looking for that mug!”

So much for the gift, but it makes for a great story that we still tell often.

Your Mother Was Right -- "Please" is the magic word

I first heard this story on the radio. When I got into the office to find this story about a French Cafe offering discounts for politeness, I must admit that I thought it was a "local" (read U.S. story).    The good news is that this is a great story in any language.   I especially like that this start as a bit of a joke, but the Cafe decided that this was their way have customers "relaaaaax".
